The HST will raise prices for all BC residents. While the BC Chamber claims it will be good for the province, many citizens are deeply worried about how this new tax will raise their costs at the worst possible time.

Stories are still told of a time when the waters of the Northwest teemed with so many salmon that one could walk across the river on their backs. Fish are vital to the livelihoods of communities on the coast and along the banks of the mighty Skeena. They are also essential to the bears and trees of the entire biosphere in Northwest British Columbia.
The massive collapse of Sockeye returns in 2009 were an urgent reminder of the fragility of even the mighty Skeena. We cannot wait til next year for answers.
How can we keep the West Coast Sockeye from falling into the same fate of Atlantic Cod? How best to manage stocks to sustain present livelihoods while preserving future fisheries? Who should fish what, where, when? And who should decide?

While pipelines in themselves may seem benign, the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway pipelines link to a much bigger story - tar sands expansion to the east and new oil supertanker traffic to the west. The project raises a number of questions about acceptable risk and long-term choices - What are the health and climate impacts of resulting tar sands expansion? With Enbridge not liable for tanker spills, what guarantees do we have for clean-up and compensation? What are the impacts of a double-spill of tar sands and condensate (used to dilute bitumen) on salmon? Are northwestern residents willing to accept these risks? Is the process adequate for affected communities? Should we be shipping tar sands to China or providing greater energy security to Atlantic Canada? What kind of energy future do we want and need? What is our vision for the northwest?
This forum will explore these issues and, with your help, generate lively discussions.
